House Hunting: Homes For $6.2 Million Near Vero Beach, Manhattan And Toronto

Like its neighbor to the south, Canada’s real estate market is expected to see continued growth in 2021, particularly in the luxury sector. In Toronto, an emerging global hub, residential sales of $5 million or more have increased by more than 8% year-over-year, while sales of $2 million or more have increased by about 10%. In March, the average price of a home was nearly $1.1 million, according to the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board.

In this week’s look at the world’s finest homes, I compared properties in Toronto against similarly priced properties near Vero Beach, Florida, and New York City. From a contemporary residence in the heart of West Village to a custom home on the exclusive Old Colony Road, here’s a closer look at what about $6.2 million buys in Hutchinson Island, Manhattan and Toronto.

West Village, Manhattan, New York City | $6.5 million

This Greenwich Lane condominium in the heart of West Village has been renovated from top to bottom and features a tasteful mix of high ceilings, wide-plank floors and artful fixtures. The unit has two bedrooms and two bathrooms in more than 1,500 square feet of living space.

Features: Walls of windows converge in the library/second bedroom to perfectly frame panoramic views of the nearby river and cityscape. The floor-to-ceiling glass is continued in the living room and primary suite, the latter of which has been extensively updated with a marble-clad bathroom and exquisite built-ins.

Other perks: Private storage and a lease to the seller’s garage space—two hard to come by items in the urban metropolis—can be included in the sale for an additional cost.

York Mills, Toronto, Ontario | $6.22 million  (CAD 7.5 million)

Designed and built by custom homebuilder Joe Brennan of Brennan Custom Homes, this palatial residence lies in York Hills, a highly sought-after neighborhood in Toronto’s North York District. Tailored for entertaining and family living, the 11,000-square-foot home features a lower entertainment level complete with a glass wine cellar, billiards room, recreation room, wet bar and nanny suite.

Features: At the heart of the home is a sunken living room entered through a pair of French doors. The centerpiece common area is outfitted with beautiful herringbone-patterned wood floors and topped by a Swarovski chandelier. Windows framing front gardens and a wood-burning fireplace with a marble surround and carved mantle complete the timeless setting.

Other perks: There is something for everyone at the Old Colony Road estate. Amenities include a newly added sports court and an indoor swimming pool and a spa. A gym and cedar-lined sauna are among other details of note.
